Why is it that African Americans have the highest rate of single parenting?

I know that they do what they know from their own families and parents, along with an increase rate of African-Americans who serve time in jail, but what are some of the other reasons why it is becoming so prevalent? Thank you for your assistance in advance. Why is it that African Americans have the highest rate of single parenting?
this goes back to the time when slavery was still in America. families were usually broken apart. the mothers usually were in charge of the family (within the white master's household). men were often seperated from their families. blacks were eventually freed but jim crow laws were instated which was just a ';looser'; form of slavery. blacks did not have any money and anywhere to live, so they had to borrow money from their old slave masters and work for them to pay it off. this started a cycle of poverty and oppression. very little blacks were able to get out of that. fast forward to the 1900s, the ghettos were places where blacks lived. it was quite hard for them to live so they had to do whatever to get by.

it's so easy to blame people for the reason they are in jail. however it is the SOCIAL STRUCTURE. America is not the land of equality, as they popularly proclaim. because if it was, every child would get the same quality education, not depending on their property tax %26amp; zip code, a main indicator for what type of education children will receive. children with enough text books, enough teachers, computers and extra curricular activities are more likely to learn more than children in the innercities who don't have anything.

SO... these people suffering turn to gangs and drugs and alcohol because they think it can fix their problems and it also can be an escape for life. for example, a man can make a lot of money in a day selling drugs than working. I know it ain't right, but that's easier. 1 in 3 black men are either incarcerated, or on parole. my social problems teacher says in 20 years it will be very high.

ALSO..according to the conflict theory, people in power want to stay in power SO they make laws and rules to benefit them. selling crack (cheaper kind of cocaine), most commonly by poorer people, has a worse consequence then regular cocaine (more expensive). SO basically, people in power want to keep everyone else down. ALSO according to functional theory, the people in power LET things happen because everything serves as a function in society. example: if there is no crime, there would be no police officers, etc

blah blah blah

SO yeahWhy is it that African Americans have the highest rate of single parenting?
I feel that they are very emotional people. They tends to think with their heart and not with their head. So they will not hesitate to do things that make them feel good without thinking of the consequences.
A major factor is actually the structure of the welfare state, which will provide support for a single woman, but not for a family where an able-bodied man is living with his wife and children. This is a patronizing policy that leads to the division of the African American family, as men know that they can do ';better'; by their family by actually leaving. But the system is largely to blame for rewarding these absconding men and their wives or girlfriends.
well, I don't agree with the person who said that welfare is rewarding these mothers for being single mothers but...

In several of my classes (not even in the same major/discipline) we have talked about how african-american men make little money and find it hard to get a steady job. Because of this, they are reluctant to marry, as they don't feel they will be able to provide adequately for their family. In addition, african-american culture has traditionally accepted extended family living situations, so a single mother can find support with aunts, grandmothers, etc., and doesn't necessarily need to rely on or marry a father she doesn't care about that much.

It is true that back in the day you would get more money out of welfare than by both parents being married and working.. but I honestly don't believe people make that kind of cost-benefit analysis when it comes to marriage and living arrangements. Today with TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families), marriage is emphasized, so they don't really reward being single!
No really. the moari and pasific-islander in NZ are the same. Low level of home-ownership, very high level of unemployment, single parents, criminal, using all sort of social benefits available.

i personally think that, its caused by a gene that has direct effect on their 'attitude towards life'. They were given all the chances, but.. still not able to achieve. Are they unwilling, or are they unable? Either one of this answer is not understandable for me.
the majority dont believe in abortions
