Since the shared toys teach children about communal property.Do feminists believe that day care is a good substitute for direct parenting?
The best parenting minimum wage can buy.Do feminists believe that day care is a good substitute for direct parenting?
Feminists have differing views on child care. Some believe that direct parenting is best, and some believe that day care can be just as good.
I believe in direct parenting, but there is no evidence that day care (GOOD day care) is detrimental, and there is much evidence that it's very beneficial in socialization and vocabulary.
It would depend entirely on the personalities of the parents and the personalities of the day-care workers as to which is best. If the day-care setting is a safe, friendly space for the child and home isn't - well, you get what I mean!
When I was a child, I ONLY felt safe and comfortable when my mother was NOT around. I was never left at a day-care facility - simply because there WERE none in our little mid-western farm community. Rather, my mother had a babysitter who came to the house when she was gone.
When she would go out that door and my sister and I would be left alone with the sitter, I could feel a scary weight lift off my shoulders - only to have it return when she did at the end of the day.
My only source of fear and stress throughout the day would be a slight worry that the babysitter might tell my mother something when she got home that would make her mad and set her off - but for the most part, daycare was an enormous relief from fear and stress for me.
Of course, if the parents are kind and loving and the day-care person is abusive, then THAT would be another matter entirely.
If BOTH are positive and nurturing environments, though, I would think the daily variety could possibly be GOOD for the child.
Of course not. Feminists believe that they too should earn a living and daycare provides a proper environment for their children while they work. Daycare could never substitute for mom or dad.
Obviously. What's worse is many people seem to think daycare is better than being a stay-at-home-mom(or parent), mainly because one is paid. But money isn't everything...
