I already have Dr. Sears' Vaccine Book. What else would be useful?
Also I am planning a natural childbirth with a midwife so birth-related resources are welcome too. What are some good books and resources for a natural/attachment parenting-minded first time mom?
Dr. Sears has a great book that's huge, but easy to read and gives lots of great info. about the concept. I'm a huge fan of this concept ';naturally';, then realized it actually had a name. What are some good books and resources for a natural/attachment parenting-minded first time mom?
Woo-HOoo! Good for you mama! I have a great group at earthymommies.com all about the AP business, and really supportive! Prenatal Yoga and Natural Childbirth by Jeannine Parvati-Baker is GREAT -- a little hard to find- look on amazon-- Spiritual Midwifery by Ina May Gaskin-- Unassisted Childbirth by Laura Shandley is fantastic too-- even if you are having a midwife w/ you--One book which is not really ap, but is fantstic for supporting the theory of touch is ';Touching'; by Ashley Montague-- amazing researcher--- www.childbirthconnection.com is also great-- The no cry sleep solution by Elizabeth Pantley??? (sorry) is also really good I hear. Kindred magazine from Australia looks to have some good articles on AP parenting; trying to think of more for you-- those should be some good places to start. So good to see a mama who is trusting her self to know what to do!! Email me if you have any further questions--- Good luck!!
Instead of recommending books, I'd recommend you visit your closest university library. They have a much greater range than a municipal library will have. I found all sorts of interesting things, including stories from a hippy commune where they usually smooch their way through early labour! In some ways, the search for the books is as important as the content of the books themselves. I found many things in the uni library that I wouldn't have even thought of looking for.
The other thing I recommend is finding out about playgroups in your area. I started taking my daughter to a Steiner playgroup when she was 3 weeks old. She enjoyed the different faces, and I enjoyed the company of mums with similar values.
Go to Dr. Sears website. He is wonderful when it comes to these topics. We have parented all four of our children in this manner and love the closeness our family shares. Our children range from 13 to 5 months. Sorry I don't have any good books but you will find some on his website.
Good luck and congrats!
